This design allows for easy and cost-effective blade replacements without the need to replace the entire knife. When designing a TMR knife it is always a balance between flexibility and wear resisance. We have solved all that.
To break it down:
- Backer Plate is ductile/flexible material. (Great for frozen round bales it bounces back to shape) This stays on the machine and does not require regular replacing. Thick 1/2″ (12mm) Portion of the blade.
- The smaller 1/4″ (6mm) bolt on high carbon Alloy Knives edges and made from a very hard material. This is a more costly material most manufacturers don’t utilize. These knife blades are laser tungsten coated on the edges and machined to precision for a sharp edge that does not wear away too fast. Our design features he coating as well as relief machining to “beaver tooth” or wear in the right places to stay sharp as long as possible.
- These smaller blades are in weight less, meaning it cost you less to replace. Than a complete big knife.
- The smaller blade edges are able to swap between inner and outer as the outer half of a TMR feed mixer knife always wears faster that the portion closer to the auger.
In the end we made a modular mixer knife that is affordable and less to maintain. Let’s not forget we are able to utilize two different material properties to make a logical knife design.
